 Mäuschen, was schleppst du dort
mir das Stück Zucker fort?
M. Liebe Frau, ach vergib,
habe vier Kinder lieb;
waren so hungrig noch.
Gute Frau, laß mirs doch.

Da lachte die Frau in ihrem Sinn
und sagte: Nun, Mäuschen, so lauf nur hin!
Ich wollte ja meinem Kinde soeben
auch etwas für den Hunger geben.
Das Mäuschen lief fort, o wie geschwind!
Die Frau ging fröhlich zu ihrem Kind.
