by Johann Heinrich Voss (1751 - 1826)

Der Trinker
Language: German (Deutsch)
Der weise Diogenes war
Liebhaber ambrosischer Klarheit,
Und sang in der zechenden Schaar:
Trinkt, Brüder! im Wein ist die Wahrheit!

Und kam er betrunken vom Schmaus,
Dann wählte der Alte, so heißt es,
Ein lediges Oxhoft zum Haus,
Und freute sich athmend des Geistes.
