Dans les climats d’où vient la myrrhe, Loin des rivages, sur les flots, Il naît une fleur qu’on admire, Et dont l’odeur, quand on l’aspire, Donne l’extase aux matelots. Savez-vous son nom ? Le flot le soupire, Il meurt sans le dire. Savez-vous son nom ? Oh non ! Fleur tout prodige et tout mystère, L’abîme amer est son berceau ; Nul fil ne l’attache à la terre, Nulle main ne la désaltère, Nulle ancre ne la tient sous l’eau. Savez-vous son nom ? Le flot le soupire, Il fuit sans le dire. Savez-vous son nom ? Oh non ! Elle est pâle comme une joue Dont l’amour a bu les couleurs ; Et quand la vague la secoue, De son bouton, qui se dénoue, Il pleut une séve de pleurs. Savez-vous son nom ?
