from Volkslieder (Folksongs)

Ic stont op caluwen dunen
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Ic stont op caluwen dunen,
Ic sach ter seewaert in:
Hoe odelic was mi die werelt!
Hoe droevich was mijn sin!

Och soete madelieve,
Hoe bistu so fel ghemoet!
Du en hebs mi niet ghelaten
Dan minen teghenspoet.

Laet dine oghen micken
In liefden op mi neer,
Dan bloeijen die dunen vol rosen
En die see wort een vroudenmeer.

Note: Hoffmann von Fallersleben collected this and many other Flemish poems and published them in three volumes titled Horae Belgicae
