Translation by Aleksei Nikolayevich Apukhtin (1841 - 1893)

O, smejsja nado mnoj za to, čto...
Language: Russian (Русский)  after the French (Français)
O, smejsja nado mnoj za to, čto bezučastno
JA v mire ne idu probitoju tropoj,
Za to, čto pesen dar i žizn' ja sžeg naprasno,
Za to, čto gibnu ja… O, smejsja nado mnoj!

Glumis' i chochoči s bezžalostnym ukorom —
Tolpa počtit tvoj smech sočuvstviem živym;
Vse budut za tebja, prokljat'ja grjanut chorom,
I kamni poletjat poslušno za tvoim.

I esli, sovladat' s toskoju ne umeja,
Iznyvšaja duša zastonet, zadrožit…
Skorej sdavi mne grud', prervi moj ston skoree,
A to, byt' možet, Bog uslyšit i prostit.
