На поляне лесной исполин вековой
одиноко спит,
в мураве молодой на поляне лесной
древний дуб стоит.

Много весен и зим отшумело над ним,
он и хмур и сед;
но стоит невредим всем дубам молодым
старый, старый дед.

Много видел он слез и невзгод перенес
в дни былых годин,
но от ветра и гроз, как гранитный утес,
он не пал один.

Зеленеющий всход на поляне цветет...
Только он поник.
От весны он не ждет ни утех, ни забот:
глух и нем старик.

Меж соседей своих он не видит родных.
Пусть шумит весна!
Он навеки затих, сновидений былых
его грусть полна.

Он грустит о лесах, где в зеленых шатрах
был он - гордый царь,
о могучих дубах, да о тех соловьях,
что певали встарь...

На поляне лесной исполин вековой
смотрит в чуждый бор.
Он поник головой, и грозы роковой
ждет он с давних пор.
