  О бедное сердце!.. тебя гложет горе,
  Но гордой улыбкой судьбе отвечай!..

Пусть небо дивится могучей пучине,
Пусть спорит с упрямой, как с равной себе!
  Ты сильно, о сердце! не рабствуй кручине,
  Разбейся... но вживе не сдайся в борьбе!

Не вытерпит море ничье созерцанье,
Лишь богу знакомо в нём тайное дно:
  Высокому сердцу позор состраданье,-
  Загадкою вечной да будет оно!..
