Когда я в бурном море плавал,
И мой корабль пошел ко дну,
Я так воззвал: «Отец мой, Дьявол,
Спаси, помилуй, — я тону.

Не дай погибнуть раньше срока
Душе озлобленной моей, —
Я власти тёмного порока
Отдам остаток чёрных дней».

И Дьявол взял меня, и бросил
В полуистлевшую ладью.
Я там нашёл и пару вёсел,
И серый парус, и скамью.

И вынес я опять на сушу,
В больное, злое житиё,
Мою отверженную душу
И тело грешное моё.

И верен я, отец мой, Дьявол,
Обету, данному в злой час,
Когда я в бурном море плавал,
