Tout est calme, tout est silence ;
la nuit monte, au loin tout se tait.
Et de l'ombre un faible murmure
doucement s'élève et bruit.
Ecoutez ! des nuits c'est la brise,
à la terre une voix des cieux !

Elle chante les harmonies,
les amours des chants éternels,
mille voix à sa voix répondent,
et chacune envoie un désir.
Toute chose et chante et soupire
et s'élance et s'épanouit.

Et mon âme aussi se réveille,
secouant son linçeul de mort,
et quand tout s'élève et te chante,
elle aussi s'élance vers toi,
à t'aimer aspire mon être,
donne moi, seigneur, ton amour !
