Beim Biabli, jo, wer' i so gern,
und doch ischt er mir gar so fern.
Nett wahr? du bleibsch mer trei,
und liabsch me immer nei?
Trennt uns a Berg un Dahl,
du triffsch koin andre Wahl.
Nah oder fern
di han i gern,
i suach koin andern noi,
han jo mei Schätzli d'Hoim.
An di allein han i nor denkt,
han dir jo g'wiss Freide mit g'schenkt.
Einer, der hätt mer g'seit,
dass i sei Liab soll sei,
hätt mer sei Herz ausg'schütt
un um a Küssle bitt.
Dees kann net sein,
han i ihm g'seit;
i suach koin andern noi,
han jo mei Schätzli d'Hoim.
Un sollt i di halt nie mehr scha,
wird halt mei Liab do no besteha,
und bin i au scho dott,
bitt i den liebe Gott,
dass er dir gibt nur Glück,
dass denksch an mir zurück,
un bei die Stern
bleib' i jo gern!
Suchsch dir koin andre, noi,
kommsch ball zu mir dann Hoim.

The Swabian Maiden
Language: English  after the Swabian (Schwäbisch)
I'd like so much to be with my beloved,
but he's very far from me.
You will stay faithful to me, won't you,
and love me with a love that's always new.
May us part mountain and valley,
you'll never choose another one.
Near or far,
I love you,
I don't look for another boy,
because I've my treasure at home.
It's you alone whom I'm thinking of,
I gave you all the joy I could.
There is one that has said to me,
I should be his beloved,
he poured out his heart to me,
he asked for a kiss.
This can never be,
I said to him;
I don't look for another boy,
because I've my treasure at home.
And should I never see you again,
my love will stay firm nonetheless,
even when I shall be dead
I shall ask the Lord
that he grants you all the happiness,
that you'll remember me;
then willingly
I shall remain with the stars!
You'll never choose another one,
but will come home to me soon.
