's Kohlrösl
Language: Styrian (Steirisch)
Hoch auf der Olm, da steht a Blüamerl,
so herzi kloan und doch so liab;
's Kohlrösl is's, was zart und fein
I siech das Röserl, brich mir's glei ab
und bind's zum Sträußerl mir schon knapp;
ans Miada steck' ich's meiner Dirn',
an ihr'n Herzen soll es blüh'n.
Holladiödiö ...
Blüh nur zu und blüh nur fort,
an ihrem Herzen is dein Ort.
Möcht's Röserl sein, tät' i mi freu'n,
zufrieden bleib' i, g'nieß viel Ruah.
d'rum hab' i a allweil auf mei Dirndal
wie auf mein' Hergott fest vertraut.
Sollt's Röserl amal ganz verwelken,
bewahrt sie's do no treuli auf,
bet' a für mi, wann's schaut darauf.
Holladiödiö ...
D'rum blüh nur fort, ja, blüh nur fort,
an ihrem Herzen is dein Ort.

The Black Orchid
Language: English  after the Styrian (Steirisch)
On the mountain pastures, there grows a flower,
small, lovely and so dear;
with sweet fragrance, completely covert
it flavors the air early in the morning.
That is the black orchid, tender and delicate
and just as faithful as real love.
It blossoms quietly and in secrecy
all alone on the pasture.
I spot the orchid, pick it at once
join it to the small bunch I've picked already
and stick it onto my lassie's bodice,
that it may bloom hereafter near her heart.
Holladiödiö ...
just bloom and bloom ever further,
your place is near her heart.
I'd like to be the orchid, I'd be glad,
it's near her heart that I'd like to be.
May she carry it faithfully near her heart
and think of me early and late,
never flirt with other fellows;
then I'll be content and enjoy my rest.
The orchid effects, that she thinks of her lover,
whenever she looks at it;
therefore I've always confided in her
just as firmly as I trust in God.
And should the orchid eventually wilt,
nonetheless she will faithfully store it;
she will carry it to church in her prayer book
and pray for me, when she looks at it.
Holladiödiö ...
just bloom and bloom ever further,
your place is near her heart.
I'd gladly swap with you,
could I, like you, be with her at all times.
