Line 1. The cicada is an old symbol of resurrection and rebirth; in poetry, they also symbolize singers and musicians, since they sing.
Line 2. Also called Queen of the Meadow and mead wort, the white meadowsweet is a compound flower similar to Queen Anne’s Lace. The ancient magical properties of meadowsweet include peace, love, and divination.
