by Karl Johann Philipp Spitta (1801 - 1859)

Das Lied der Lieder
Language: German (Deutsch)
Es giebt ein Lied der Lieder,
Das singst du immer wieder,
Wenn du es einmal singen lernst;
Kein Mensch hat es ersonnen,
Das Lied so reich an Wonnen,
Und doch so lehrreich, tief und ernst.

Es singt von einer Liebe,
Vor der des Lebens Trübe
Wie Nebel vor der Sonne flieht.
Wie weichen alle Schmerzen,
Wenn man so recht von Herzen
Anstimmen kann das schöne Lied!

Note: the modern spelling of "giebt" is "gibt"
