An den Abendstern

Lamp of the night
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Lamp of the night, extend thy soft ray, harbinger friendly of rest! Under thy canopy stars fade away, when thou appear'st in the west. Ah! thou findest nor country nor home, onwards, onwards dost thou roam. Peace my poor heart will revisit no more, faded and wither'd away; like these dead roses, its spring time is o'er, clouded and dull its bright day. Ah! my heart with its woe and its pain never, never can peace regain.
From the Lenz score.
