Sang und klang mir in die Ohren:
"Tröste dich nur, dein Lied ist fern,
Fern bei uns und nicht verloren!

"Findest du nicht oft einen Klang,
Wie zu früh herüber geklungen?
Also hat sich heut dein Sang
Heimlich zu uns hinüber geschwungen!

"Dort, im donnernden Weltgesang,
Wirst du ein leises Lied erkennen,
Das dir, wie fernster Glockenklang,
Diesen Sommertag wird nennen.

"Denn die Ewigkeit ist nur
Hin und her ein tönendes Weben;
Vorwärts, rückwärts wird die Spur
Deiner Schritte klingend erbeben,

"Deiner Schritte durch das All,
Bis, wie eine singende Schlange,
Einst dein Leben den vollen Schall
Findet im Zusammenhange."

Loin d’ici mais pas perdu !

Ne trouves-tu aucun accord

Aussi aujourd’hui ton chant
En secret s’envola vers nous !

Là, dans la rumeur du monde,
Une douce mélodie tu reconnaîtras
Qui, pour toi, lointain bourdon,
Signera ce jour d’été.

Car l’éternité n’est
ici et là qu’un maillage sonore
De ci, de là, la trace
hésitante de tes pas résonnera,

De tes pas, à travers le Tout,
Jusqu’à ce que, tel un Serpent enchanteur,
Un jour ta vie trouve sa pleine mesure
immergée dans l’Univers"
