Un gros  vieillard me donne qu'a bien quatre vingts ans.
Et moi, pauvre fillette, où pass'rai-je mon temps?
"Patience, ma fille, c'est un riche marchand.
Il est au lit malade, on dit qu'il est mourant.
Tu seras héritière, ma fill', de tout l'argent!"
Au diable la richesse, quand on n'est pas content.
Voudrais mieux être pauvre avoir contentement
Que d'être riche et dame avec mille tourments.
Et quand je serai morte n'aurai besoin de rien,
Mettront la nappe blanche, un drap blanc par dessus;
Diront: la bell' est morte. Eh bien, n'en parlons plus.
