Je ne rencontre dans la ville
Qu'un abbé que son ombre suit.

Sa redingote fait soutane
Et lui tombe jusqu'aux talons!
Il porte un feutre aux bords très-longs,
Culotte courte et grande canne.

Cet abbé chemine en priant,
Et, seul au milieu de la rue,
Tout noir, il fait sa tache crue
Sur le ciel tendre et souriant.
