Das ist eine wilde, stürmische Fahrt
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Das ist eine wilde, stürmische Fahrt,
Ein kühnes, ein keckes Wagen!
Es heult der Sturm nach Sturmes Art,
Ans Schiff die Wellen schlagen.

Es schäumt die Flut, es schwankt das Bot,
Es schwankt nach unten und oben;
Ja, zwischen den Schiffer und den Tod
Ist nur ein Brett geschoben.

Doch wer nicht wagt, der nicht gewinnt,
Jung frein mag niemand reuen,
Und wer sein Lieb von Herzen minnt,
Der darf den Tod nicht scheuen.

Das Zögern macht mir angst und bang
Und bringt nicht aus der Stelle;
Drum frisch durch Sturm und Wogendrang:
Bei Gott, fahr zu, Geselle!

That is a wild, stormy journey
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
That is a wild, stormy journey,
A bold, an audacious daring!
The storm is howling as is its wont,
The waves are beating at the ship.

The waters are foaming, the boat is reeling,
It vacillates upward and downward;
Yes, between the sailor and death
Only a board has been inserted.

But he who does not venture, does not win,
To marry young causes no one rue,
And whoever loves his darling with all his heart,
Must not shy away from death.

Hesitation causes me great fear
And does not move me from the spot;
Therefore, briskly through storm and the affliction of the waves:
By God, sail on, comrade!
