Immer war ich auf der Fahrt, Immer Pilgersmann, Wenig hab ich mir bewahrt, Glück und Weh zerrann. Unbekannt war Sinn und Ziel Meiner Wanderschaft, Tausend Male, daß ich fiel, Neu mich aufgerafft! Ach, es war der Liebe Stern, Den ich suchen ging, Der so heilig und so fern In den Höhen hing. Eh das Ziel mir war bewußt, Wanderte ich leicht, Habe manche Höhenlust, Manches Glück erreicht. Nun ich kaum den Stern erkannt, Ist es schon zu spät, Hat er schon sich abgewandt, Morgenschauer weht. Abschied nimmt die bunte Welt, Die so lieb mir ward. Hab ich auch das Ziel verfehlt, Kühn war doch die Fahrt.

Sempre era de viatge, sempre un pelegrí, poca cosa em resta, esvaïts la felicitat i la pena. Desconeguts eren el sentit i la meta dels meus viatges, mil vegades he caigut però m’he tornat a aixecar! Ai, era l’estel de l’amor que jo anava a cercar, el que tan sagrat i llunyà sura a les alçàries. Abans de ser conscient de la meta, caminava amb un pas lleuger, he assolit mants pinacles de goig i felicitat. Ara que a penes he albirat l’estel, ja és massa tard, ell ja s’ha allunyat, alena el calfred del matí. El món bigarrat s’acomiada, el que m’era tan preuat. Tot i que no he arribat a la meta, ardit ha estat el viatge.
