Erhebst du die klaren Äugelein; So freuen sich Sonnen- und Mondenschein, Und alle Sternlein neigen sich, Und singen fröhlich: wir lieben dich! Du senkest des Blickes milden Strahl; Und Hügel duften, es grünt das Thal, Und tausend Blumen nicken dir zu, Und rufen lächelnd: wie schön bist du! Deckt aber die Äuglein der Wimpern Nacht, So schwindet der Mond und die Sternenpracht, Es schließt die Blume sich auf der Flur, Und klagt noch im Schlummer: wo weilt sie nur? Ich aber eil' in die Nacht hinaus, Umwandle träumend dein stilles Haus, Mich labt und quälet der Liebe Pein, Und leise seufz' ich: ach wärst du mein!
