Schnell entschwunden war der Traum
Language: German (Deutsch)

Schnell entschwunden war der Traum,
Ach ich glaub', ich glaub' es kaum,
Daß so weit ich weggezogen,
Daß die Holden mir entflogen,
Daß ich hundert Meilen fort
Nun gezogen bin von dort.
Weinend seh' ich nun zurück
Auf mein schön geträumtes Glück,
Doch es ist, es ist entrissen,
Ihre Nähe muß ich missen;
Bleib' vielleicht vom Freudenstern
Ewig, ja auf ewig fern!
Nassen Blickes hingewandt
Zu der **bach frohem Strand
Schlag ich, eingedenk der Freuden,
Nun im Schmerze in die Saiten,
Rufe dann Entzückens voll:
Holde Kinder, lebet wohl!

The dream had vanished quickly
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The dream had vanished quickly,
Ah, I can hardly, can hardly believe it,
That I have travelled so far away
That the dear ones have been whisked away from me,
That I have now travelled
A hundred miles from there.
Weeping, I now look back
To my beautifully dreamed happiness,
But it is, it is torn away,
I must do without their company;
If I think about it, I grow anxious,
For who knows, who knows for how long.
The hour of my death may toll,
I might lie in the weighty ground,
Before the leaves fall again
That I might travel back once more:
Perhaps I might remain
Eternally, yes, eternally far away from the star of joy!
With tear-filled eyes turned
Toward the joyful bank of the ***brook,
I, pondering the joys, now strike
My strings in pain,
Then I call out, full of rapture:
Dear children, farewell!
