Mit blassen Flatterwolken
Soll dich in jeden Traum 
Mit dem wetterleuchtenden Wäldersaum 
Das Bild der Nacht verfolgen, 
Der fieberschwülen Spätsommernacht,
Da wir mit fackelbeglänzten
Verblätternden Rosen uns bekränzten,
Da du so schwül und gell gelacht.

Du sollst schlaflose Nächte lang
Die harten Stundenschläge zählen 
Und dich in Ängsten fieberbang 
Zurück durch alle Nöte quälen, 
Die ich seit jener Nacht erlitt, 
Da ich auf Nimmerwiedersehen 
Vorbei an Park, Schloß und Alleen 
Auf schwarzem Roß ins Elend ritt.

Maledicció

Amb pàl·lids, movedissos núvols,
amb la llampegadissa al marge dels boscos,
la imatge de la nit
t’hauria de perseguir en cada somni,
aquella febril, xafogosa nit de la fi d’estiu,
quan ens engalanarem amb roses esfullades  
brillant a la llum de les torxes,
quan tu tan sensual i cridanera reies.

En nits d’insomni hauries de comptar
el rigorós tocar de les hores,
i en febrils, neguitosos temors
turmentar-te per totes les penes
que jo, des d’aquella nit, he sofert,
quan, al no veure’t mai més,
pel davant de parcs, castells i alberedes,
cavalcava vers la dissort damunt un corser negre.
