Vom Waldesrand ein letztes Winken
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Vom Waldesrand ein letztes Winken
Hinab ins sonnbeglänzte Thal --
Wann werden wir zum andernmal
Aus jenem Zauberbronnen trinken?

Der Klang von unsern warmen Worten
Er wird verwehn, so bald, so bald --
Ein Schauer faßt mich vor dem Wald
Und seinen dunklen, stillen Pforten.

Und zögernd nur mag ich mich schicken
Den heimlich düstern Weg zu gehn --
Wer allzulang ins Licht gesehn
Dem flimmert's seltsam vor den Blicken.

From the edge of the forest a last...
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
From the edge of the forest a last greeting
Down into the sun-dazzled valley --
When shall we once more drink
From that magical well?

The sound of our fervent words
Shall dissipate, so soon, so soon --
I am gripped by a shudder of horror of the wood
And its dark, silent gateways.

And only hesitatingly am I able to prepare myself
To walk the secret, ill-lit path --
Those who have looked all too long into the light
Experience a strange flickering in their eyes.
