Translation by Pio Bondioli (1890 - 1958)

Canzone per ballo
Language: Italian (Italiano)  after the Greek (Ελληνικά)
Godete, giovani; godete, belle:
I giorni scemano e Caronte ce li conta,
Ce li conta ad uno ad uno.
Incominciate il ballo, via!
Poi la nera terra ci ingoi.
Caronte non ha giudizio né riguardi;
Strappa i figli dalle poppe e lascia i vecchi.
Ah! Balliamo dunque, poi che il ballo giova.
Sotto questa terra che calpestiamo,
Tutti una volta andremo.
Questa terra verdeggiante divora giovani e pallicari;
Questa terra fiorita divora giovanette, divora fanciulle
Divorerà anche noi questa terra che pur ci è madre;
Questa terra che ci divorerà, battetela coi piede.
