Das ist nicht Zeit, die in mein Ohr dringt. Da ist ein Glänzender, der machtvoll singt. Über meine Augen Wolken ziehn, o Luft und weite Wolken! Das nimmt mich ganz in die Heimat hin. Einen Adler hör' ich rauschend folgen; und Höhn und Tiefen sind voll Melodien. Ich schau' ein Haupt, schau' in ein Auge. In diesem Auge flammt eine neue große Fackel. Ich greife nach der Fackel -- -- "Vielleicht glückt es: du verirrst dich im Feuer, -- "und gelangst in die Urschlucht des Daseins" . . .
