Vergangener Lenz
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Nun haben die Bäume abgeblüht,
Und schon zur Frucht getrieben,
Von dem herrlichen, jubelnden Lenzeslied
Ist nur ein Nachhall geblieben.
Vorbei das erste, zarte Grün,
Vorbei die Liebesklage,
Nun brüten die Sänger des Frühlings schon
Im schattig kühlem Hage.
Bald blühet die Rose in voller Pracht,
Und unter flüsternden Bäumen
Kannst du in der schwülen Sommernacht
Vom vergangenen Lenze träumen.

Bygone springtime
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Now the trees have finished blossoming,
And are already forming fruits,
Of the glorious, rejoicing song of spring
On an echo remains.
The first delicate green is past,
Past is the lament of love,
Now the singers of spring are already
Sitting on their eggs in the cool, shady grove.
Soon the roses shall bloom in their full splendour,
And under whispering trees,
In the humid summer night, you may
Dream of bygone springtime.
