Ein alter Maulbeer der am Wegrand steht
blickt nach den Sommerstraßen
verkündend weichen Westen Düfte leis verweht

Wie sehnt sich dort Frau Nachtigall
Die alte Sage segnet herben Sinn
und weckt der Weite Widerhall

Es schließt der Wind die Erker auf und zu
Sind auch des Mädchens Fenster längst vertan,
Es hat die Rose Rast und Ruh.

Was lugt dort an Turm und Kreuz hervor
Ein rötlich Bild vergilbt Im Garten singt der Schwan,
schon winkt der Abend durch das Efeutor.
