Glaube nicht, daß ich aus Dummheit Dulde deine Teufeleien; Glaub auch nicht, ich sei ein Herrgott, Der gewohnt ist zu verzeihen. Deine Nücken, deine Tücken Hab ich freilich still ertragen. Andre Leut an meinem Platze Hätten längst dich tot geschlagen. Schweres Kreuz! Gleichviel, ich schlepp es! Wirst mich stets geduldig finden - Wisse, Weib, daß ich dich liebe, Um zu büßen meine Sünden. Ja, du bist mein Fegefeuer, Doch aus deinen schlimmen Armen Wird geläutert mich erlösen Gottes Gnade und Erbarmen.
