warum du ohne dein Verschulden
an Sorgen reich, an Freuden arm,
so viel des Elends mußt erdulden.

Warum? Du marterst dich vergebens 
und bringst doch nicht ein Fünkchen licht
ins dunkle Rätsel deines lebens.
Drum dulde still und frage nicht. 

O frage nicht in bangem Schrnerz, 
wenn bitt're Leiden dich bedrücken,
warum dein armes schwaches Herz
erhoffte Freuden nicht beglücken. 

Frag' nicht, warurn es deinem Leben 
an Glück und Sonnenschein gebricht?
Dir ward ein Menschenloos gegeben.
Drum dulde still und frage nicht.

tan ric d’aflicció i tan pobre d’alegries,
has de suportar tantes misèries.

Per què? Inútilment et martiritzes
i no aportes ni una espurna de llum
a l’obscur enigma de la teva vida.
Per això suporta-ho i no preguntis.

Oh, no preguntis en l’angoixa,
quan t’aclaparen amargs sofriments,
per què esperades alegries no fan feliç
el teu pobre feble cor.

No preguntes per què a la teva vida
hi manquen felicitat i llum de sol?
A tu se’t va donar un destí humà.
Per això suporta-ho i no preguntis.
