Still ist's auf dem Erdenkreise
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Still ist's auf dem Erdenkreise,
Nur die Nachtigall im Baume
Schlägt noch ihre ernste Weise,
Leis' und heimlich, wie im Traume;

Und der Mond mit mattem Lächeln
Blickt vom Himmelszelt hernieder.
Laue, weiche Lüfte fächeln,
Stark gewürzt vom duft'gen Flieder!

Ach, die Welt in ihrem Schlummer
Gleicht dem armen Menschenherzen,
Das nach Tages Müh'n und Kummer
Träumend nur, vergisst die Schmerzen.

It is quiet round about the world
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
It is quiet round about the world,
Only the nightingale in the tree
Is still jugging its solemn lay,
Quietly and secretively, as in a dream.

And the moon with a wan smile
Gazes down from the canopy of heaven.
Warm, soft breezes waft about,
Strongly spiced with the scented lilac!

Ah, the world in its slumber
Is like the poor human heart
That, only dreaming after the day's labours and sorrows,
Forgets its pains.
