Sehnsucht nach der Heimath
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Irrend im fremden Land
Müde und unbekannt,
Schau ich zum Heimathglück
Sehnend zurück!

Bin von der Meinen fern[,]
Wäre wohl dort so gern[,]
Wellen im Strome dort
Wälzet mich fort!

Einsam das Auge thrän't,
Kalt mich die Freud angähnt,
Herzen, für Liebe stumm,
Um mich herum!

O, wie zieht's mich von hier,
Heimath zu dir, zu dir,
Aar in den Lüften dort
Trage mich fort!

Irrend im fremden Land
Nach meiner Freunde Hand,
Wahr und voll treuem Sinn,
Sehn' ich mich hin!

Freudenlos ohne Lust,
Klaget die kranke Brust,
Winde im Haine dort,
Wehet mich fort!

Ach, wie im tiefsten Wald
Brauset der Sturm so kalt,
Liebchen, in deinem Arm
Wär mir so warm!

Glühend an deinem Herz,
Zög' es mich himmelwärts:
Sturmwind im Walde dort,
Reiße mich fort!

Yearning for home
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Straying about in a foreign land,
Weary and unknown,
I gaze yearningly back
To the happiness of home!

I am far from my kin,
I would so dearly love to be there,
Ye waves in yonder river,
Sweep me away!

Lonely tears flow from my eyes,
Pleasure yawns at me coldly,
Around me are hearts
That are mute to love!

Oh how I yearn [to be] away from here
Home, to you, to you,
Eagle in yonder winds
Carry me away!

Straying about in a foreign land,
For the hands of my friends,
True and full of faithful spirit,
I yearn!

Joyless, without delight,
My sick bosom laments,
Winds in yonder grove
Waft me away!

Ah, how in the deepest forest
The storm rages so coldly,
Darling, in your arm
I would be so warm!

Glowingly [resting] upon your heart
I would be drawn heavenward:
Storm-wind in yonder forest
Sweep me away!
