Un canarino prigioniero, dalla gabbia,
Mandava al sole un trillo armonioso.
Libero, sul cespuglio di lillà,
Un uccello fuori dalle sbarre lo udì;
A lungo ascoltò -- si fece silenzio,
poi intonò un canto in risposta.
