was murmelt er den ganzen Tag so leise, leise?
Das Vöglein auf dem hohen Ast,
was singt es immer ohne Rast für liebe Weise?
Was winkt der Mond so seltsam bleich
im Zauberglanz aus seinem Reich im Sternenkreise?
Wer es versteht, der weiß gewiss,
was die geheime Deutung ist von all' dem Wesen.
Er hat es in des Bächleins Klang,
im hellen Mond, in Vögleins Sang gar wohl gelesen:
Es ist im Glanz und Ton und Klang
der Liebe Licht und Hochgesang ewig gewesen.
