Geheimnis

Den Hain durchrauscht der klare Bach,
was murmelt er den ganzen Tag so leise, leise?
Das Vöglein auf dem hohen Ast,
was singt es immer ohne Rast für liebe Weise?
Was winkt der Mond so seltsam bleich

Mystery
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The clear stream ripples through the trees;
why does it murmur all day, so softly, so softly?
The bird on the high branch,
why does it always sing such a lovely tune without a break?
What signal is the extraordinary pale moon sending
in its magical splendour from its kingdom in the stars around?
Anyone who understands this definitely knows
what the secret meaning of all being is.
He will have read it in the sound of the stream,
in the bright moon and in the bird's song alike:
in looks and music and sound
love's light and its soaring song have always been present.
