Such' nicht den Frieden in der Hoffnung,
O such' den Frieden nicht im Traum,
Hoffnung und Traum sind doch am Ende
Nur luft'ger, goldgeschmückter Schaum.
 
Such' nur den Frieden in der Thräne,
Die Perle, die der Schmerz dir gab;
