Schmückst du dich, Himmel, so mit dem schönsten Blau, Grünt ihr, o Fluren, und leuchtet ihr, Knospen, im Thau, Lässest du schimmern, o Wald, dein prächtigstes Licht, Weil euch entzücket wie mich ihr lachend Gesicht? Raget ihr, Berge, heut gar in so strahlender Pracht, Weil ihr in Minne von fern meiner Holden gedacht? Dank dir, o Frühling! so schön, ja so schön warst du nie, Aber vergieb mir, ich sehe nur sie doch, nur sie! Rejoicing larks sing to the coming of spring, They whirl and hover up there in the sunshine, And from the firs, how loudly the blackbirds sing, Do you wish to greet my bride, the beloved of my heart for me? Do you, sky, adorn yourself with the loveliest blue, Do you, oh leas, grow green and you buds shine in the dew, Do you, oh forest, let your most splendid light shimmer, Because her laughing face enchants you as it does me? Do you, mountains, loom today in such radiant grandeur Because from afar you have thought of my dear one with love? Thanks be to you, oh springtime! you were never so lovely, yes, so lovely, But forgive me, for I nonetheless see only her, only her! And can you be angry with me, you dear, blissful day, That I am not able to praise you rejoicingly today? Ah, only a smile, only a single glance from her, Is much lovelier, much lovelier, springtime, than all your adornment!
