Translation Singable translation by Olga Wooge

Christnacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Heilge Nacht, mit Engelschwingen
Nahst du leise dich der Welt,
Und die Glocken hör ich klingen
Und die Fenster sind erhellt.

Selbst die Hütte trieft von Segen,
Und der Kindlein froher Dank
Jauchzt dem Himmelskind entgegen,
Und ihr Stammeln wird Gesang.

Heilge Nacht, mit tausend Kerzen
Steigst du feierlich herauf;
O, so geh in unserm Herzen,
Stern des Lebens, nun auch auf.

Schau, im Himmel und auf Erden
Glänzt der Liebe heller Schein.
Friede soll's noch einmal werden,
Und die Liebe König sein.

Christmas
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Holy night, on angels' wing
Bends to earth so still and bright.
Merry bells, I hear them ring,
And the windows all alight.

Poorest hut abounds with bliss
And the children thankful, proud,
Offering their sweetest kiss
They all cheer to God aloud.

Holy night, with all thine light
Solemnly I see descend.
Star of life, so grand and bright,
Take my heart, my knees are bent.

Lo, in heaven and on earth
Peace and love spread sparkling shine.
Peace and love and pious mirth,
Mankind, be the kingdom thine.
