Da zieh'n meine Tauben am liebsten hin,
Mein Herz und mein Leben, die wohnen ja d'rin;

Mein Herz und mein Leben, mein Glück und mein Leid,
Ist über den Wassern die holdeste Maid.
Und die weissen, weissen Tauben, die ziehen durch's Thal,
Das sind meine Grüße zu Tausendmal.

My greetings

There across the waters, in yonder grove,
There stands a house, solitary under the firs.
Thither my doves like best to go,
For my heart and my life, they live therein;

My heart and my life, my happiness and my sorrow
Is, across the waters, the loveliest maiden.
And the white, white doves, they travel through the vale,
Those are my greetings, thousandfold.
