Ich flocht' ein Kränzlein schöner Lieder,
Ihr Name klang in jedem wieder,
Ich schrieb ihn in Blätter und Blumen ein
Und wahrte sie lang in geheimem Schrein,
Ich grub ihn tief in dunkle Eichen,
Ich liebte so schön und musste schweigen.

Ich folgt' im Flug ihr durch die Auen,
Ich mochte sie nur gerne schauen,
Es stand mir das Auge in Tränenflut,
Es glühte das Herz mir in Liebesglut.
Es glühte, den Himmel in ihr zu erreichen,
Ich liebte so heiss und musste schweigen.

Vor Sehnsucht erblasst' ich', wollte sterben,
Mocht' um kein andres Kleinod werben,
Sah prangende Röslein gar lieb und schön,
Ging eilend vorüber, liess alle stehn.
Ich nannte mein Herz ja nimmer mein eigen,
Ich liebte so treu und musste schweigen.

Estimar i callar

Vaig trenar una petita garlanda de belles cançons,
el nom d’ella sonava a totes elles,
el vaig inscriure a fulles i flors
i les vaig guardar molt de temps en un cofre secret,
el vaig gravar a l’escorça de roures negrencs,
estimava tan formosament i havia de callar.

Al vol, la seguia a través de la prada,
m’agradava tan sols d’esguardar-la,
els ulls em vessaven de llàgrimes,
de passió amorosa m’abrusava el cor,
m’abrusava per, en ella, arribar al cel,
estimava tan ardentment i havia de callar.

Vaig empal·lidir de desig, em volia morir,
no volia cortejar cap altre joiell,
vaig veure petites roses resplendents ben agradables i formoses,
rabent, vaig passat de llarg, les vaig deixar estar totes,
mai més vaig poder anomenar el meu cor com a propi,
estimava tan fidelment i havia de callar.
