Ich wußte nicht warum;
Viel Herren mit schmalen Waden
Standen im Saal herum.

Es waren Herren von Namen
Und von gewaltigem Ruf,
Von denen der eine Dramen,
Der andre Romane schuf.

Sie wußten sich flott zu betragen
Und machten ein groß Geschrei,
Da schämte ich mich zu sagen,
daß ich auch ein Dichter sei.

Eren cavallers de renom
i de molt bona reputació,
un d’ells escrivia obres de teatre,
un altre, novel·les.

Sabien comportar-se amb estil
i feien molt de rebombori,
així que em vaig avergonyir de dir
que jo també era poeta.
