  Wie's Röslein am Hage
Wirst roth du und bleich,
Da hol' ohne Frage
Den Lohn ich mir gleich!

  Nicht einzig den Winden 
Gebührt er fürwahr,
Die alsbald ihn finden 
Und zausen dein Haar. 

  Nicht einzig den Finken
Vom Tannbusch umrauscht,
Die närrisch mir winken
Was heut sie erlauscht. 

  Nicht einzig der Sonne,
Die spielt auf dem Grund
Und blickte voll Wonne
In's Herz dir zur Stund. 

  Hab selber zum Blühen
Die Knospe gebracht;
Daß brennend sie glühen,
Mein Blick hat's gemacht! 

  Derweil sie noch prangen
In holdester Zier,
Küß flugs von den Wangen
Ich alle sie dir!

Perfect for kissing

Like the little rose beside the grove
You blush and become pale:
Without a doubt, I shall immediately
Fetch myself the reward!

  Truly, [the reward] is not due 
Solely to the winds,
Which soon find it
And tangle your hair.

  It is not due solely to the finches
Soughed about by the fir bush,
Who clownishly signal to me
That which they, eavesdropping, heard today.

  It is not due solely to the sun,
Which plays upon the vale
And, full of bliss, gazed
Into your heart at this hour.

For I myself brought the buds
To blossoming;
That they glow burningly
Was caused by my glance!

While they still stand resplendent
In the loveliest adornment,
I shall quickly kiss them all
From your cheeks for you!
