Der Wald -! Die Nacht -! Glühwürmer staunen;
Ein ferner Vogel geigt auf einer Flöte.
Die Äste knarren - - - Sagen raunen,
Indes ich vor dem Geist der Nacht erröte.

Ein ungeheures Weh schluchzt in den Tiefen,
Ein ungeheures Lachen gellt herüber - -
Ich geb' dem Monde einen Nasenstüber
Und denke derer, die im Schatten schliefen.

Ein gelber Schmerz mit silbergrünen Rändern
Schrillt mir durchs Herz wie eine stumpfe Säge ...
Der Weltgeist brütet auf den schwarzen Ländern;
Mein Busen zittert und mein Schlips sitzt schräge.

O namenlose Wonne, so zu stehen
Im wehen Mond und solche Qual zu leiden!
Mit blindem Blick ins Herz der Nacht zu sehen!!
Und stumm zu herrschen über violette Weiten!!!

Nit al bosc – Poema d'un simbolista de Schwabing

El bosc –! La nit –! Les lluernes es meravellen;
un ocell llunyà toca la flauta.
Les branques cruixen – – – llegendes  mormolen,
mentre m’enrojolo davant  l'esperit de la nit.

Una tristor immensa sanglota a les fondàries,
una rialla immensa ressona ençà - -
dono un avís a la lluna
i penso en aquells que dormien en les ombres.

Un dolor groguenc amb vores verdes argentades
xiscla al meu cor com una serra esmussada...
L'esperit del món rumia damunt les terres negroses;
el pit em tremola i la corbata em penja torta.

Oh, joia indicible, estar així
sota la lluna dolorosa i patir un aital turment!
Veure el cor de la nit amb ulls cecs!!
I regnar en silenci damunt extensions violàcies!!!
