Klaren Blicks die Wölkchen lachten; 
Wußten's wohl, im Sonnenschein 
Mag der Duft den früherwachten 
Veilchen einzig nur gedeihn. 

Nun die Rosen drunten blühen, 
Thauen freudig sie hinab; 
Wissen's wohl, noch holder glühen 
Alle, träuft der Regen drab. 

Danken Gott auf ihren Pfaden, 
Bis im Blauen sie zerstreut, 
Der des Schönen voller Gnaden 
Auch im Erdenthal sich freut.

Summer cloudlets

With a clear gaze, the cloudlets laughed;
They knew well that only in the sunshine
The scent of the early-wakened
Violets may flourish.

Now that the roses below are blooming,
[The cloudets] joyfully drop their dew;
They well know that all [the roses] will glow
More beautifully when rain falls upon them.

[They] thank God upon their pathways
Until they are scattered in the blue
By Him, who, in the earthly vale as well,
Rejoices full of mercy in that which is beautiful.
