Der Maien ist gestorben
In seiner Blütenpracht!
Er hauchte aus sein Leben
In dieser lauen Nacht!
Ich sah ihn ungern sterben!
Ich hatte ihn so lieb
Mit seinem süßen Zauber
Und zarten Blütentrieb.
Und als von Wehmut weinte
Mein Herz ob dem Verlust,
Hab ich den Mai begraben
In meiner tiefsten Brust.
Und wenn die kalten Winde
Im Winter mich umwehn,
Dann wird in meinem Herzen
Der Maien auferstehn.

A contracor l’he vist morir!
L’estimava tant
amb el seu dolç encís
i els tendres brots de flors.
I mentre de nostàlgia plorava
el meu cor per la pèrdua,
he enterrat el maig
al més fons del meu pit.
I quan els freds vents
de l’hivern bufin al meu entorn,
llavors dins del meu cor
el maig renaixerà.
