Vittoria, mio core!
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Vittoria, mio core!
Note (courtesy Laura Prichard): This text is from one of Carissimi’s more than 150 solo cantatas, which were written for professional singers who entertained in wealthy Roman homes. The earliest source for this song is Manuscript Mus. G 28 at Biblioteca Estense, Modena, and it appears in over a dozen early manuscripts, indicating its popularity. The first stanza is a refrain, and should be sung at the beginning and end of the song, as well as after the stanza ending "È spento l’ardore!"

I triumph! I triumph!
Language: English  after the Italian (Italiano)
I triumph! I triumph! The last word is spoken. Farewell to my sighs! Farewell to my tears! At length I have broken the bondage of years! At last I have broken the bondage of years! Though beauty to conquest With ardour advances, And marshals against me Her tenderest glances, Her folly, her falsehood, No more can deceive me, Her fraud and her cruelty No longer can grieve me. Fair eyes falsely smiling, Now cease your pursuing, No more your beguiling Shall work your undoing, My pain and my torment For ever are banished, O'erthrown are love's forces, And all fear hath vanish'd.
