Mauerreste, wilder Wein --
Letzte Rosen auf den Beeten --
Malven, Astern und Reseden --
Und darüber hingegossen
Voller, gold'ner Sonnenschein.

Tiefe Ruhe ringsumher!
Lastend liegt des Mittags Schweigen
Über all' den grünen Zweigen,
Träumend blickt der Himmel nieder
Und die Erde athmet schwer.

Und wir beide, du und ich,
All der Farbenschönheit trunken,
Sind uns in den Arm gesunken,
Leise, wie aus weiter Ferne,
Hör' ich noch dein "Küsse mich ..."

Noonday

Fragments of stone walls, wild grapes --
The last roses upon the flower-beds --
Mallows, asters and mignonettes --
And poured over it all,
Full, golden sunshine.

Deep peace all around!
The silence of noon lies weightily
Over all the green branches,
The sky gazes down dreamily
And the earth breathes heavily.

And we two, you and I,
Intoxicated by all the colourful beauty,
Sank into each others arms;
Quietly, as if from a great distance,
I still hear your "Kiss me ..."
