by Karl von Lemcke (1831 - 1913)

Am Bach
Language: German (Deutsch)
Am Bach bin ich 'gangen,
Wo die Maßliebchen steh'n,
Da hab' ich voll Bangen
Meinen Schatz kommen seh'n.

Maßliebchen hat eben
Geheims ich gefragt,
O Lieben, o Leben!
Ja! hat es gesagt.

O könnt' ich dich küssen,
Du lieber, lieber Knab',
Doch du darfst ja nicht wissen,
Wie so lieb' ich dich hab'.

Hätt's Maßlieb gelogen?
Ich spring in den Wald --
Und hat's nicht getrogen,
So find'st du mich bald.

Confirmed with Karl von Lemcke, Lieder und Gedichte, Hamburg: Hoffmann und Campe, 1861, page 85. Appears in Vermischte Lieder.
