Tout en bas du talus où s’encaisse la route,
Où très peu de cie s’aperçoit,
Sans regarder autour de soi,
La petite chevrette broute.

Elle qui dans les yeux garde, on ne sait comment,
La claire vision des horizons sans bornes,
Tourne en un cercle étroit, tirant obstinément
Sur la corde tendue, attachée à ses cornes !

Vers l’azur qui l’attend au paradis de Dieu,
Notre âme obstinément s’élance devant elle,
Mais, tenue à nos corps comme la chèvre au pieu,
Notre âme est prisonnière, avant d’être immortelle !

Just al peu del talús on s’engorja el camí,
on molt poc de cel s’albira,
sense mirar al seu entorn,
la cabreta pastura.

Ella que, als seus ulls, reté —qui sap com—
la visió clara d'horitzons sense límits,
volta en un estret cercle, estirant amb tossuderia
la corda tensa lligada a les seves banyes!

Vers el cel blau que l'espera al paradís de Déu,
la nostra ànima obstinadament s'enlaira per davant seu,
però, lligada als nostres cossos com la cabra a l’estaca,
la nostra ànima és presonera, abans de fer-se immortal!
