Mag nicht zum Schlehenhag,
Dort schallt so laut und immerdar
Der Nachtigallen Schlag.

In meinem eignen Herzen singt
Ein liebes Vögelein;
Im stillen Garten lausch' ich ihm,
Lausch' ihm im Kämmerlein.

Es singt so lieb und singt so süß,
Was mich so selig macht --
Von Treu und Liebe singt es nur
Und jubelt Tag und Nacht.

No longer to the blackthorn hedge,
So loud and ceaselessly sounds there
The jugging of the nightingales.

In my own heart there sings
A dear birdlet;
In the quiet garden I listen to it,
Listen to it in my little chamber.

It sings so dearly and sings so sweetly
Of that which makes me so happy--
Sings only of faithfulness and love
And rejoices day and night.
