Letzter Trost
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Der Rose gleich im Maienthau
O! hat mein Herz erquickt
Ein Blümchen, das auf kahler Au
Zuletzt mir zugenickt.

Confirmed with Liederbuch von Friedrich Oser, 1842-1874. Mit einem biographischen Verzeichnis der Componisten, Basel: Benno Schwabe, Verlagsbuchhandlung, 1875, pages 127-128.

Final comfort
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Like a rose in the dew of May,
Oh! my heart was refreshed
By a little flower that recently
Nodded to me upon the bare meadow.

And like the scent in a valley of blossoms
Oh! I was blessed by a breath
That, though the leaves were drab,
Still passed through the heath.

And like the brightest sunshine
Oh! I was given comfort
By a beam [of light] that fell into my heart
From the night of clouds.

You final comfort, how sweet you are,
And [how you] in a trice
Call springtime back to me
In all its bliss, radiance and happiness!
